The Life of a female Celebrity
This Articles looks at the reality of being a female celebrity and living in the lime-light

To those who live a regular life, Celebrities have this glamorous glow about them. We often think they are somewhat perfect because of the media images we are presented of them. No matter how much they are 'like us' for most they generally live unattainable lives.
The Celebrity life is one that for, well, forever has been put on a pedestal. A life that is full of Glamour and Money but for celebrities now-a-days there is allot that comes along side that. ‘The high life’ now is one where a private life is almost none existent the constant need for coverage from the media as well as desire from fans for communication on social media platforms. Is being a Celebrity really what we think it is, a life of money, parties and nice clothes? What more is there too it?
There are so many women within the public eye as role models for girls today but nearly all of these women have taken a different route to get where they are and lead very different lives while still under the same umbrella of being famous. There are now so many different types of fame from actresses to those who use social media platforms such as TikTok to gain a following.
We have so many apps now that can connect us to the outside work it seems to be becoming easier and easier to become famous or at least to be in the public eye. With new names cropping up all over the place and social media giving a huge platform to people the idea of fame is changing, you can even be famous without leaving your house. However, for many celebrity women fame can be hard, constantly being in the limelight and the huge lack of privacy, but is this not what you ask for when you walk into the celebrity world?
I spoke to Charlotte Crosby, a now globally recognised celebrity who rose to fame at the age of 21 on reality tv show Geordie Shore. Since then she has hosted television shows, appeared on Australian ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here!’ and had her own reality show following her life as well as releasing a hugely successful fitness DVD. Throughout Charlotte's career she has had many stories published in the media, good and bad, but this is what the public want they want every detail of the celebrity life. The good, the bad and the ugly.
Charlotte said “My biggest challenge since becoming famous has definitely got to be, everybody having a say on everything you choose to do. Its hard having to read everybody’s opinions on your life choices.
Every part of my life is in the public eye, having my own reality TV program, I tend to get judged all of the time. Judgement can be really hard to take especially when its negative, but I’ve built up a thick skin over the years.”
Celebrities often face criticism from the media and the public in their everyday life. Being famous seems to mean understanding that this will happen and that there are always going to be people out there who do not like you. This can become difficult for many women and there are numerous cases of ladies who have not been able to cope with this. With the media having the power and ability to scrutinise those in the public eye it is very unlikely that delving into the lives of these women is going to change to any large extent any time soon.
It is not only the media’s reaction to things that celebrity women must deal with but also online commentators and trolls. Within the industry you now have judgement coming from every angle and you must be ready to accept it or learn how to block it out.
Charlotte carried on saying “Don’t get me wrong, sometimes it can be really hard reading negative things about yourself. Luckily, I have grown a really thick skin off the 10 years of being in this industry. And it turns out there’s only so many times you can read the same negative comment before it has no affect. Trolls rarely get creative with their abuse, so it just gets very boring and after awhile you become numb to it.”
The benefit of all this if you can accept it is the lifestyle that it allows you to have. The life these women lead is something that most can only dream of the clothes, the houses, the travel it almost makes it seem all worth it. It can come across to those watching from a distant that women in this position don’t seem to do a great deal but get rewarded in abundance. This however is not the case; we must remember as the public we only see what those in higher places wish to show us. There is much more goes on behind the scenes in these women’s lives to allow them to live how they do.
I asked Charlotte about her average day, she told me “My average day normally always includes a lot of travelling I tend to be in a different place working and filming a lot so my average day usually contains a lot of different work sometimes I can be in London and be on a radio show 9am-10am then photo shoot 11am-4pm then an event 7pm onwards and get back to the hotel where I usually sit for an hour or so on my phone promoting my other businesses on social media.”
Work hard play hard right.
For many of these women even with the constant scrutiny, which they accept as part of the package, this life is something they would never change. It is one full of opportunity and hope allowing them to continue in their roles as public figures and even in many cases it gives them a voice they may have once not had.
One of these women who wouldn’t choose to change their lifestyle is Charlotte who told me “I could never ever go back to normal life sometimes when I have 3 or 4 days off and Im sat at home I get so so bored. I love staying on the go and living out of a suitcase. My life is so spontaneous and wild I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Being a Female celebrity in the 21st century is a life choice that is hard in its own way full of pressures to be this and that, but it is also so very rewarding and gives you the ability to have a life like no other.
